I acquired a Subaru 360 sedan a few months ago and joind the club. Can someoen help me to locate the vin number on the car which I hope will lead me to identify the year of make? The engine is claimed to be running, the gas tank has holes in it and there are lots of rust areas to be sorted out. Would someone have a gas tank for sale? Can someone aso let me know if it is possible to buy the windscreen rubber gasket and the rubber for the two side windows that open?

The VIN plate should be under the hood, under the spare tire. It is a very flimsy aluminum plate glued to the firewall. Rubber for the side windows is not available, have to locate good used pieces, if you can. It is made of unobtanium and very hard to find. The windshield rubber is not available in the original form, aftermarket is available, check in the posts, someone in the club has it... Good luck with the car

If you can't find it from this info, E-MAIL ME so I can return a photo to you by e-mail of the page from the owner's manual shat shows the location of the sedan VIN.

If you happen to have a truck or van instead of a sedan, I can show you the location of that also.

"unobtanium" They sure used a lot of that stuff as near as I can tell. Possibly main ingredient.

Thanks for the helpful comments and the unhelpful but very funny one with the name of the element that had eluded me all this time. In two days time I will get an opprtunity to check out the vin number. I will post my findings.

Can anyone enlighten Steve on the above points? I think he is asking about van and or truck Vin locations, but I am not entirely sure. My knowledge of Vin location(s) is confined to sedans only - Sorry!

besides the stamp, there is an aluminum plate with it as well. I think someone posted the location of that earlier.

My reply on this disappeared too.
Remove the spare tire, look at the metal
"crossmember" below where the tire was,
wash it if necessary
THERE IS THE VIN, STAMPED IN THE METAL;

Is that the small aluminium "tag" that is usually found attached to the jack holder bracket? If so, I don't think it is the same number as the VIN, at least not in my case anyway.

It's not the VIN. My sedan had it too.

So if someone says they have a "matching numbers" subaru 360. Are they full of it? Or is the number actualy somewhere on the chassis and engine somewhere?

"matching numbers" means nothing on a 360.
The VIN for a sedan is K111L-(4 or 5 digits)
The only thing that matches it is the title

Engine # is not important and is nothing like the VIN

"matching numbers" is in a class with "very rare"
and "less than 100 imported"
