New 360 fanatic in SoCal

#1 Post by BJs360 »

A quick hello to everyone. I'm a new member and long time VW Bug fan who was introduced to the Subaru 360 about 6 months ago and am now totally hooked. I picked up a 70 Deluxe about four months ago off ebay. It was being sold as a parts car but was actually super solid so I decided to attempt to restore it. It's missing quite a few parts (roof, interior, door handles, ignition and keys, etc) but I've been fortunate to pick a few up online and from others in the club

Here's a link to a gallery of how things are going:

I just bought a 360 truck this morning here in LA as well. It's pretty solid but ha been sitting in the sand for 30 years. The driver's side of the bed is rusted through so if anyone has any suggestions on replacing it I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm really looking forward to digging into this one as well.

Thank you Jamie for your help in getting set up online.

Thank you to everyone for all your help so far as I begin this journey.

:D

Wow. Glad to see you found us.

You have made great progress already on the Sedan. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Maybe the truck could be a flatbed or something custom?

Welcome to the club!

welcome!

wow, that's a lot of visual improvement just by sanding it down to the white... gives me some motivation to sand the crummy paint off my van...

where are the pictures of the truck?

Hey BJs360
Did you buy that blue truck listed for $750 on craigslist?
I am in SoCal too. Where abouts are you?
I live in the Palm Springs Area.

Yes it was the Craigslist blue truck. It'll be a bit more of a challenge because of the metalwork that will need to be done on the back end. If anyone knows any good (and affordable) metal shops or individuals in LA I'd appreciate the info.

I'll have some pics after I pick it up this week. I'm thinking about building some wood uprights for the back and turning it into a mini stakebed.

I'd like to round out the set with a van as well so feel free to share if you know of a decent one out this way.

The real challenge for me on these projects will be the engines and transmission. I'm not too familiar with the mechanics so it will definitely be a learning experience. At this point I don't have a complete engine and the blocks I have are both seize up from sitting too long.

Thanks again for the welcome and the responses. I'll post more pics as we get further along.

BJ
I have a 360 Van for sale and I am only two hours away from LA.
I am asking $3050 but I will let it go for $2750 to a club member.
The best part of it all is it runs! And registration is current!
And I have the title in my name!
It would be less trouble for you than that truck that's for sure.
Let me know if your interested.

Here are a couple shots of it:

I'm interested, but my budget right now is really tight with my current projects. I'm in Santa Clarita, CA. Can I give you a call about the van?

Thanks!

BJ,
Yes call me,
My number is in the newsletter which should be out soon.
Or go to my website and email me your phone number through there and I will call you back. ( http://www.JLOPEZR.com )
I can try to work with your budget as much as I can but I am trying to get as much of my investment back as I can.
Also I know a guy close to you who has a 100% complete 360 Van motor and trans for sale if your interested, you could use it in that truck you just got.
The guy is doing a conversion and is taking out a perfectly good running unit.
