My 360 story....so far.

#1 Post by Schmitty »

Allow myself to introduce...........myself. My name is Jason Milsom and I've been interested in Micro cars my whole life. My interest in Subaru 360's began about 16 years ago. My Dad and I had gone to look at a Mk II Jaguar that he was interested in buying. It didn't turn out to be very good and we where driving home a little disappointed when we both spotted something interesting in the middle of a field. From the road all we could see was two rounded roofs sticking up from the tall grass. I had to investigate and of course they where Subaru's. I took a guess at which house they belonged to and was lucky enough to get the right one find out that they where in fact for sale! I bought both for $400 and towed them home a few days later.

One was more or less a parts car but the other was quite nice and I had it running and driving the same day I brought it home.
I drove it regularly for several years and very much enjoyed it. I found a motorcycle I thought I had to have (A john player Norton Commando) and sold the Subarus to raise the funds. The bike never quite lived up to my expectations and I always regretted selling the 360's.

Here is my old car next to an ordinary car.

I recently bought another 360 off of craigslist. It's in quite nice condition and unusually it is painted entirely black. There are a few very slight body modifications. I would prefer it to be stock but it does look nice. It had not been running since 2004. I've already had it started and it sounds good. The seller told me over the phone it had all new brakes when he bought it 10 years ago but after I drove 3 hours with a trailer I found out it has no brakes at all! It has a sleeved master cylinder but all the drums are completely empty. I know brake parts are hard to come by but the car is very solid and straight so I bought it anyway.

I've contacted a few drivers club member's with parts offered in the classifieds, but if anyone knows of parts or a parts car in the Seattle WA area I sure would appreciate any leads I can get!

Many thanks
Jason Milsom Granite Falls WA

The Interior is decent. It has black door panels from a Young. The rear seat is missing the upper half and so far I don't have a front seat although the Seller has promised to provide a good condition seat his neighbor has for it. Apparently his neighbor has quite a few micro cars but was out of town the day I picked up the black car.

The body is definitely this cars best feature. There is no rust (except the gas tank). The brakes of course are a major hurdle. I can't wait to get it back on the road!

Thanks
Jason

Schmitty:

Welcome. I live in Sumner and you probably drove by my house to pick your new prize. Hope to see you in Tacoma in July at the national micro car show. It is going to held at the Lemay Museum by the Tacoma Dome on I-5.

Don't have any parts but give me a call. 253-988-2275.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I do plan to attend the Micro car meet at the Lemay Museum.

2stroketurbo: you are correct, This car did belong to Del although he lives near Tacoma and not in central WA. He told me he bought this car 10 years ago in Ohio from the person who had just painted it black. It looks like it never got re-assembled after paint, there is still masking tape around the inside of the windows.

It's mostly complete except for a few details, All the brakes, wing mirrors, upper part of back seat, tail lights.
Sure wish I still had that parts car around.

Many thanks
Jason

Welcome to the Club from downunder, Jason!

That story is one for the start of a novel - and you're currently living about Chapter three. LOL

Livin' the dream, huh? :D

Cheers,

Ian

Update: It took buying brake parts from several different drivers club members and some new parts and labor of course but I got my brakes working! unable to find a better fuel tank I patched up the one I had, it had several huge holes. One hole was 5 inches in diameter! My fuel tank is now very usable again. The black 360 Sedan is back on the road and enjoying life again!!

Very special thanks to Ed Parsil, the parts I got from him where the only ones that arrived already clean and also they where the cheapest.

My new car still has plenty of things it needs but I am loving it.

Thanks
Jason
