Need loaner wheelsto recover ElectraVan

#1 Post by alanmac »

Hi fellow efficiency/cutie nuts:
My first post:
Ive been looking for 360 for two years and finally bought the white/rust ElectraVan that was on eBay in Sept. Called a 360/600 by seller.
(it didnt meet reserve, but I bought it after the auction.) I know, pics, pics-I will post some hot engine bay pics tomorrow when I unpack my camera. Four-mouse power !
I towed it a little way from Chicago towards Kansas City, but the probably _original_ 1981 5.00x10 6pr ! tires gave out. (yeah -Duh!)
Well, I of course had a couple new tires with me.
Problem is, the tire shops wont work on them-turns out the rims are SO rusted that they"re UNSAFE
Had to abandon it and need to borrow a couple wheels from someone to get it home to Kansas City. Like- a week ? Will pay all Fedex etc both ways. Just tape together and I'll give you an account no to charge to.
They appear to be like 360 wheels, but Im not sure-I know the brake drums are iron instead of the cool finned ones you guys all have .

Anyone know ?

PS at this time, I have to borrow a computer so my response times are , um, protracted, but Im getting Google Fiber to the house in a month or so.... :D

I think the electravan tires have to rated HD for the extra weight of the batteries. I work on two local electravans , but I think the rims are different. Everything is different !

Tucson Electric Power had an Electravan when we
got to Tucson in 1980, I went to see the foreman of
the maint. shop for their vehicles and he had a parts
book which I read from cover to cover seeking
crossover parts, found very few.

The factory tires were 5.00x10 8-ply biad ply

I think any good 145x10 radial would carry the
weight and last longer and ride better than the
bias-ply tires.

Gee, a reply from mr Ed himself ! thats exciting.

Thanks, 2stroketurbo< its nice to see one running !

This one has only 8,000 miles on it, but was obviously left outside when the original batteries failed- ie - for decades :(

ill try to attach a few pics of it and the wheels. They have an 8" central hole for drum, and a bit less than 2" width of each rim half-say 45mm. I think the bolt circle is about 4 on 220 mm.
