New member from eastern PA (originally from Vermont)
Hello,
I am considering having a Young S restored. It is sitting in a field in Vermont (for 30 years) but came from Montana where I went to college and drove the Subaru back and forth to work one summer. So it has a lot of sentimental value. I have no mechanical ability to do the restoration myself and I'm afraid its going to cost a lot. Any thoughts? I'm planning to bring it back to PA in a couple weeks.

Hey! Welcome.
Where in eastern PA are you? I'm in northern eastern PA close to the NJ border.
Bring it down let's get it back on the road. My shop (garage, lab) has seen its share of sedans lately.
The beauty is that although VT. Is crazy about road salt, this car has been sitting on the sidelines.
Post up some pics. We love pictures here.. and we'll get a better idea of what your working with.
We have some friends in VT.
Oh wait isn't that the state slogan? Oh no it's you've got a friend in pa.
I think VT is something cheesy like I lovermont...
Never mind.

Hi Melanie,
Welcome to the club. You have definately come to the right place. And, your living in eastern PA puts you near several of us, especially Jon who knows the car inside and out. Here's a picture of our 360s taken in his front yard recently...

Melanie - welcome to The Club! If you need any parts just e-mail me and I
can e-mail you the lists of what I have.
Subaru 360s are extremely reliable if the previous owner didn't do anything
detrimental to it and you keep up with a minimum of preventive
maintenance. The BOOK OF REPRINTS will be a big help to you, it contains
all the historical and technical articles we have published since 1979 -
see Steve's post above for how to get it free.

300,000+ miles on Subaru 360s since Feb. 1975, and have never (yet) been stuck on the road with one!
Re: New member from eastern PA (originally from Vermont)
thanks for all the welcomes and encouraging words. I'm near Lancaster Pa. I too am hopeful that the car is not completely rusted out underneath since the car was never exposed to salt. The body does not appear to be rusted, but it was hard to tell with all the weeds around it!!. all the parts are there but the engine was torn apart to fix the oil injector and left in pieces. I'll post pictures as soon as I have some. I'm exicted to get it!

Just be sure to scrape up all those parts as you pack up. You never know what you'll need!
Take pictures and post them here as you go through this process. Folks here can garner a lot of info from them.

Hear hear Steve! I second that. When I picked my car up in 1980, it was missing many parts, which, with the benefit of hindsight, I may well have been able to access if only I had known more about the vehicle and if I had pressed the chap to check if any strange and unusual parts were hanging around his shed (the car had been unceremoniously dumped in a vacant lot next door to his house). For example, I'm pretty sure the air cleaner must have been within cooee of the vehicle, plus the air mixer box not far away.... anyhow, it won't be long and I'll have <insert clubmember suggestions for name here - only just realised she/he doesn't have one!!> back to some semblance of "completeness" !
Cheers,
Ian

Melanie - just saw you are in Lancaster. My daughter in Norwich NY saw
a Subaru 360 at a car show there early this summer, never met the owner
but he is from Lebanon PA - she said the car was in really nice shape.
My daughter learned to drive in the '70s and took her driver's license
test on our 360 sedan.
