Hello,

Being at home more I decided to get away from the computer and get an old car to work on and learn cars, welding and bodywork.

I got a 1969 Subaru van that I believe has been on this board before being resold, bouncing around Midwest and west Virginia before I got it. I'm assuming the previous owner took it apart to start with bodywork and just got overwhelmed as it was almost completely in pieces. The next owner had the idea of displaying it and a sedan restored in his Subaru dealership before the covid shutdown. Fortunately he did get it titled.

Right now I'm focusing on the brakes then getting the engine in and figuring the wiring. Slow going but straightforward. I know it looks rough but mostly just neglect and with the exception of the rear upper hatch, not too much rust.

Welcome aboard, lot's of info & the BOR "book of repairs" that ED started. Please send him your Vin # as he has recorded many over the years & may help you know so history.
Looks like a pretty solid start. Was the last owner running the tire tubeless???

The valve stem hole had gotten rusty and its edge was shredding the innertube so they wrapped the rim with metal rooting tape and a ton of rubber. Still ended up getting punctured.

Once i opened it up and saw that mess, I did the right thing and pretended I didn't see anything. And made a note to look for a spare rim at a later date.

Welcome to the club! You are so lucky to get a dismantled vehicle. It will now force you to address problems you wouldn't have known were there if it was in better shape. Seriously, you will love the process and hate it at the same time but it will be very rewarding. Good luck.

Well I have to say, that I really hope you have more luck with Frank than I did.
I ordered a whole lot of parts, then after three times trying to get them here,
he just gave up and I never heard from him again, despite various emails I sent.
