Hi my name is Dean, I live in Shelton Wa. I am a new member with a 1971 subaru modified sedan. I am having a issue getting the drums off so I can work on the brakes. is there a special tool for removing the brake drums? any help appreciated. Thank you

Front or rear? For either you may need to back the adjuster off through the slot in the drums. The rear needs a drum puller.

G'day Dean, and welcome to the Club from downunder - some piccys would be great! Please insert that location in your profile, so your fellow Club members will be able to refer to that in the future. You're in the right place for assistance!

Hi Dean
A special drum puller is needed for the rears but not front drums

This is the puller I used for the rear:
http://www.amazon.com/OTC-6980-Heavy-Br ... rum+puller
The front should come off easy. If there is a groove worn in the drums and you yank the drums off you will break very hard to find brake shoes. There is an adjuster star-wheel accessible through the slots in the drum. Two for each wheel. The rears are both on the bottom. The fronts are one top and one bottom for each wheel.

Yep, I think the builder of your micro-micro may have gotten his inspiration from the peanut.

I read your other thread first, the PEANUT is
one of the 2 Mort Smit created.
Puller is only needed for rear drums.
Several alternatives in BOOK OF REPRINTS
indexed BRAKE SYSTEM/DRUM REMOVAL (rear)

Hmmm.... Did you mean the WHOLE URL Jon? - I only use the portion that begins and ends with "[img]""[/img]" (ignore the quotation marks)
..... seems to have worked for me so far!

Welcome to the club, Dean! That's a cool car! Did you find it in Shelton?
Here is a photo of the puller I hacked together and used successfully (before I read the Book Of Reprints), even though using only two of the drum ears is really risky

That would have been a real timesaver, Ian, instead of my scrapyard abomination! I'll find one someday!

photobucket started doing that so when people click on an image they can get into the album..
I prefer just the IMG tag but when you click the copy button that what you get.

If you happen to find one in Japan

, the freight to bring it home would probably be enormous - it weighs a ton!
(MEANWHILE, there have been plenty of good suggestions from members - both on these forums and in the B.O.R.)

Can anyone tell me the best places to secure to on the car when strapping down on a trailer without doing any damage? no brakes or emergency brake yet.
besides blocking the wheels.
Thank you

straps over the front trailing arms
and rear axles or rear trailing arms
do not tie down the rear crossmember
as too much stress can bend it!
The trailer I built to haul 360s had
2 9" channels spaced to fit the wheels
and angle irons bolted in the channels
in front of the front tires and behind the back
tires.
This keeps the car from going back or forward and side to
side. The straps just hold it from bouncing out of the
"iron box" it is riding in

You may want to put headrests on that roll bar. Even a slight hit from the back would crack your skull.
