New member - IL - Looking to learn and buy

Hello all!

I am a passionate Subaru fan in general. I mostly have been involved in the WRX world. Got out of that and moved to the FXT.

Looking for a possible 360 restore project that I can do with my son. However I figured I better educate myself on the 360s before jumping right in.

Look forward to communicating with everyone!

Hi Corey,

Welcome to the Club from downunder....

You have chosen a fantastic project to undertake with your son!
I believe Ed (Parsil) will tell you that there are only five moving parts in the motor.......
but I'll leave that to him. Anyway, it's a nice simple car to begin that journey with!

Cheers,

Ian

Hi and welcome! First, figure out which model you want: sedan, van or pickup. Then, buy the very best example that you can(or cannot) afford. Then, plan to chase parts almost indefinitely, as there's not much in the way of parts to be had. Keep spending money you don't have for paint, chrome, etc. Finally, get yourself ready for all the attention you'll get (especially from the girls) and be prepared to turn down all the offers you receive for your project. Good luck!

I am mainly looking for a van to restore. Mainly because it will fit my family in it....among other reasons.

Any advice where to start searching for a van? Been searching craigslist, ebay, and general Google searches.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes

There's a van on ebay now -- in Illinois, I think.

Yes there is one in IL. I have been in contact with the owner. Price started at $2,500 on craigslist....Then popped up on ebay with his reserve at $4,000. That is what he told me he wanted for it because he said he paid $4,500 for it.

Would you guys mind taking a look at this van and tell me what you think of the price?

The last time I talked to a fellow in Huntington WV He had a van for sale for I think 3500. He had dissassembled it and had it painted. He didn't like the color so the project stopped there. He said it was all there just in pcs. I've never seen it but I could get you his contact info if it's not too far away.

The van in IL looks about average - for an Illinois vehicle. If there is no rust in the floors, I'd say it's worth $2500 - $3000. They turn up occasionally so you should not get crazy over this particular vehicle. I assume it does not run, so it will be that much more difficult for the owner to sell. It does have a few used hard-to-find parts (like the door pockets) but over-all, it's going to need everything, like tires, paint, chrome, engine rebuilding, etc. The most valuable part on the van (and the hardest part to find) is the windshield; make sure this one is good and don't plan to pull it in the future. Home restorations in pretty good shape go for about $10,000, if you can find one. How much the seller paid for it is not your business -- but how much you pay is. I think he's a car dealer, so I'd be surprised if he paid anywhere close to $4500. "If you can't trust a car salesman, who can you trust?"

I'd agree with Roger 100% above except, I think this van is worth less, as in $ 1500. or so, I bet it's got rust.
