Issues Posting

#1 Post by MRTHMBL »

There appears to be an issue posting from the website. I can post from Tapatalk, but on the forum it won’t allow me to type a reply on a thread. Jeff was experiencing the same issue which is why I tried outside of Tapatalk.

I've created myself a tapatalk account only to make this posting but don't much like using my phone for corrispondence. I've created a google group https://groups.google.com/g/subaru360 as a backup to the forum and invited as many people as I could find on the newsletter Brian sends out. Please join up (even if I missed sending you an invite). You can set your subscription to "No email" if you only want to see posts when you visit the group. Hope to see you there.

Tried but ak81@live.com gave me an error. You should be able to visit the URL and request membership, no?

Very strange. I tried your work email too and it didn't like that either. I don't suppose you have a Google email to try? Although others have signed up w/o a Google email. Hmmm.

Looking at some issues with the custom theme.
I did however post this comment via chrome web browser on my PC so at least we are working for now.

Hi Jon,

Whilst it looks as if I can now indeed post, here is stuff I've noticed is not working:

1) I received an email saying I had a PM awaiting - which was true, but there was
no indication of such once I came to the website.

2) The little arrow on the lower RH corner of every message that allows you to jump
back up to the top of page has disappeared.

That's all so far.

Cheers,

Ian

Scrub #2) (in my last message) - I've just noticed the word "Top" on the LH side now!

I cannot select topics. They show up as links rather than normal text, and when I click on them nothing happens. I can select whatever is on the right under "Last Post", which is how I selected this topic.

Yes - I agree. This appears in the message bar when I go to that link:
"You do not have the required permissions to view or read topics within this forum."
- accompanied by log-in boxes.

Then, once I log in, this appears: (SCRUB THAT - SEE BELOW)

COULDN'T ATTACH A SCREEN SHOT - THIS MESSAGE IN RED APPEARS:
The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 640 pixels wide and 480 pixels high. The submitted image is 1853 pixels wide and 836 pixels high.

I also cannot see any selection method for text "styles" (i.e.; strikethrough, Large, Larger, Humungous, etc..) - it seems to be AWOL!

Jon?

Also Jon, now my cursor disappears when I am first starting to make a reply or pm - just as it begins to enter the white reply window. No biggie, but it's a bit off-putting to begin with, then once I've typed a word or character, it mysteriously reappears again. Weird!

Cheers,

Ian

Looking better from my vantage. thanks!

Did we actually gain anything by having bubbly GUI widgets? Or was that a mistake or forced upgrade?

Nah, stuff broke and I had to choose a fallback template.
The other icons and doodads were just temporary and didn't offer any additional functionality, just an other way of looking at it.
we are due for an update, but I'll probably test out the integrated software updater.
Up until now, this site has always had to be manually updated and massaged. I'll give the 'Softaculous Apps Installer' a whirl and see what it can do.

Okay, Gang.
I have fully upgraded the forum software to the latest version, as well as pruned any obsolete extensions or broken add-ons.
The theme also was a total revamp. I had to rework many elements to get it to properly represent the theme that we are all familiar with.
There may be a few things that are still a little out of alignment or displaying strangely for instance I can see that this post field is a bit off if you have a large screen and maximize the browser.
If you happen to notice anything acting wonky let me know where it was or send me a link to it.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we are 100% now and everything is up to date.

enjoy!..

Thanks maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate!

One thing still odd is the disappearing cursor when I go to create a reply post. It goes AWOL momentarily when I first go to type the first letter, or make a change to existing text, which makes it difficult because you don't know exactly where it is on screen until you click the mouse button, then it appears. After that it seems to operate "normally" (whatever normal means nowadays!).

Thanks for your hard work, Jon.

Cheers,

Ian

Yeah, that's your machine bud.
The site only presents the form, any of the cursor behaviors are part of your local browser experience.

Sometimes browser extensions take a bit to get up to speed when entry fields are loaded like post or reply form on this site.
I know that things like Grammarly and other enrichment/correction tools can influence the experience.

I'm just glad to have everything up to date. We had some gremlins in there for a while.

Please some of the people some of the time... not all the people all the time. :) I find tapatalk just spins trying to load... too impatient to wait for an error message but expect it's probably the same issue. I'm happy the web interface works again.

I removed the forum from Tapatalk and tried to add it again because of the loading issue. That’s where I got the aforementioned error. I don’t own a home computer so Tapatalk is my access point to the forum. I’m limping through the website on my phone but would hope addressing accessibility would be important for members to keep the legacy rolling.
