New owner in Connecticut.
Hello Subaru guys and gals. I'm a proud new owner of a 69 sedan. I've been looking for one of these cars for almost 10 years now. I finally found one in decent enough shape to start this endeavor. It's been sitting in a garage for almost as long as I've been looking for it. Call it destiny. Let me give you folks The rundown.
1). It has not run in over 10 years. Power coming from coil. But no spark. I would like to upgrade to electronic ignition I think this would solve the problem. Can someone tell me who to get in contact with buy one of these things.
2). The Vacuum assembly thing (forgive me I don't know what it's called) underneath the gas tank is missing. If this is a crucial part I need to purchase one from the community.
3). Right rear brake is seized all the rest just need to be used. can someone tell me who I can send the cylinders to get them upgraded / repaired.
4). The brake fluid reservoir is low what type of fluid should I use and should I flush it?
5). Should I go through some procedure to get this thing going again being that it has sat so long. Mainly is there some kind of startup sequence that I should be going through.
Thanks in advance to all those of you who can help.

#1 Remove the oil pump.
#2 Either make sure the oil pump is functioning properly or use mixed gas to get it going from an exterior gas tank. I use a Briggs aux poly tank. I also would suggest 16 to 1 gas to oil ratio for the first start ups
#3 oil the rings through the spark plug holes with two stroke oil
#4 squirt some oil toward the con rod bearings through the intake holes in the cylinders
#5 turn it over several min on the starter without the plugs Put some rags on the top to catch the oil .
Then give it a shot.

I would think Dot 3? if it has sat that long' Does it have a solid /firm brake pedal ? I sell the wheel cylinder cups on Ebay. Chances are someone has sleeved them if it still has fluid & a pedal.
CK to see if the points aren't dirty or corroded & gaped correctly, check timing. Also ck to if plug wires aren't crossed # 1 cyl in on the distributor side.
Check the crankcase for excessive oil, while your'e lubing the rods, some times the oil pump check valve leaks oil into the crankcase from setting.
Kevin covered the most important think drop & cK the oil pump.

Where do I find the roster. I'm interested in meeting others on my area?
And the points are totally fried. The condenser is prob shot. But I want to upgrade it none the less.
The breaks worked fine getting it off the trailer. Maybe they were already relined. How can I tell?

Re: New owner in Connecticut.
Subaru 360's have some common brake problems, the master & wheel cylinders are aluminium & pit due to corrosion from water in them. The other problem is the brake linings that are bonded to aluminium shoes become unbonded due to corrosion also. The most common fix is to resleeve the M/C & wheel cylinders & have the brake shoes relined, while you are at it new rubber brake lines will help complete the job.

Thank you AnthonyC. But I'm not looking to "fix" the points I want to trash them altogether. I was told by Mark (2stroketurbo) that someone in this community makes a electronic ignition upgrade package that I want to purchase. I will most likely be contacting you for other parts though. Thanks again!

Hi Welcome to the Fun word of Subaru 360 land.
I live in Milford Ct and I have a few cars and a truck and tons of parts. ( one driver and tree project cars ) ( Truck needing lots of work ).
I have to say My driver car is all original even the tires. The only work i did was resleeve brake cylinders & New hoses and master just the rubber parts .
The engine. The rings were seized in pistons and cracked when trying to remove. Hone cylinders and new piston ring. All stock.
Even the spark plug are original ( I think ) The car has just over 11,000 miles and have to say it starts up every time with no problem with points and condenser.
This car was in a barn in weston Ct It was my friends dads and I mean buried in the barn. I remember it in 1977 when you could barely see it so much sh** was
around and on top of it. I got the car in 2007.
If I can be of any help let me know. What part of the state are you in.
Good luck Damian

Ok I have checked the oil pump for proper operation. I have mixed the first gallon of clean gas with oil 20:1. I have installed the pertronix EI. And I think I have it static timed close enough to fire. In the morning I will start her for the first time in 11 years. Wish me luck!

Re: New owner in Connecticut.
Update! I got it running on the points. I fried the pertronix system while ringing out my wiring problem. Apparently there was a 3rd ground wire that i still don't know where it goes and i accidentally had it on the hot side of the coil. Whoops. It just needs a good timing and to be run. I need to un-seize a rear brake but i think that's all the mechanical issues. Now on to registration and cosmetics!

Re: New owner in Connecticut.
I un-seize that back brake. The lining had come off and rusted itself to the drum. Both rear cylinders are frozen on one side and the shoes are out of alignment and wearing funny. I got to take it around the block for the first time and it is so fun. I cant believe modern cars are so complicated. The stearing is as easy to turn as my Cadillac, and it's so responsive. I can't even say that about my wife's 2013 Chevy. Someone also must have replaced the clutch because it is tight and responsive. Not sloppy as i thought it would be.

Re: New owner in Connecticut.
A good cleaning might take care of the clutch
See BOR for Subaru Justy rear wheel cyls that can be adapted to your 360
Is shoes are OK you can get them relined, 5/32" bonded lining if the drums have
not been cut, 3/16" if they have been cut.

Thanks ed. The break pads looked new when we finally got them off but they were chipped in some places and i had used PB blast to get them off so im definitely going to be relining them. The fronts were good came off nice and still had plenty of meet.

Re: New owner in Connecticut.
Find the reliner who has been around the longest in your area.
One member used a reliner who put too much hear on the aluminum
shoes and melted them!
You shouldn't have to tell a shop that they are aluminum, but do it anyway

So when i let it warm up it smells "hot" is that normal? Also it seams really bogged down. I haven't cleaned it at all. Im going to drain the trans and add new fluid. And drain the crankcase and put in synthetic. What trany fluid doesvit take. 90w?

80W-90, fill to 1" below the hole you put it in.
A zip-tie makes an excellent dipstick for the transazle.
