Hello everyone, my name is Harry. I finally got around to applying for the forum. I bought my truck at the beginning of September and 2 weeks later made a 33 hour round trip to pick up a van for my fiance, we bought the van from a fellow member. Fortunately we were able to drive them to work for a week or two before they got put in the garage for the winter.

Cool looking subaru 360's!! They look like they are in really good shape. Welcome to the forum! I'd love to see some more pictures. What state are you in? I'd like to get a van for my wife but I think she would see through that scheme :)

Welcome to the club! When you get your truck out, we love to see pictures. It appears that you have the relatively rare aluminum hubcaps on the truck .... aluminum ones are correct for the truck (only.) Suggest you put your state in the info at the left.

Are they supposed to be painted white or polished? I do have to repair rust on both 360s and the truck needs a new paint job as well as mirrors and wheel cylinders.

There were two types of hubcaps; they differed only in the type of metal used and not in the shape of the cap. Chromed steel went onto vans while raw aluminum went onto the pickups. From an originality standpoint, the hubcaps should not be painted or polished -- although I think you should make your cars the way you want them. If that's original, fine .... if not original, that's fine, too. It's possible, from the number of chrome caps that I've seen on trucks, that the original dealers decided to spruce up the trucks with chrome caps. In looking at the truck's hubcaps again, I can't tell if they're aluminum or white paint. Are they painted white?

The truck is not original anyway, as red was never offered as a color. (The majority of trucks were light blue with a very few coming in a sand-beige, off-white color similar to the van.) Again, I believe you should make them any way you like them -- and not be desperate to maintain originality, unless you're a purist.

For outside mirrors: the stalk mirrors are OK .... but for a better field of vision, I'd suggest you use hot-rod "peep" mirrors. Available at any hot-rod shop for about $20 to $25.

Sorry everyone, I thought I had this set to notify me and I haven't.

The hubcaps are painted white, I'm not sure if the guy I bought it from did that or someone before him. I'm not a purist although the truck will remain pretty original. I have to do body work and throw some new paint on the truck but I will be sticking with red, you'll see why in a few months. On another note, we will be entering both our 360s into the Motor Muster car show at the Greenfield Village (part of the Henry Ford Museum); this is a show for vehicles from 1932-1977. The requirements of this show is that the car MUST be factory or have minor aftermarket bits that were available during the time period, this includes paint. An exception to the rule is that commercial vehicles (like the truck) may be painted a different color since companies would paint them for their business anyway.

As for the mirrors I've decided to go with the hot rod mirror route. We have one on our van and if you saw my garage you would agree the truck wouldn't fit with oem mirrors. Keep in mind this is a standard 2.5 car garage and forgive me for it being messy.

The truck I had from 1983-1996 was
tricked out as a fire truck, you can find
it in the member's 360s section, it did
not have decals on the doors so that
one in the photo is not it unless it was
"redecorated" by the current owner in NH.

And I have NEVER left the club

It's not the same truck, I designed the decals and had them produced. They are magnetic so they're easily removable (again, have to return to stock for the one car show)
