Another new guy. Bryan in Boise, Idaho. Truck in a box :).

#1 Post by imp_biz_kit »

Hello all,
I've been looking for a van for, like, 30 years or so. A friend had one 20 years ago and was supposed to trade me for my Scirocco but that never went through. A few weeks ago I found one on Craigslist. The pics that were posted were taken when the truck was intact. It wasn't when I got to it though. It's all in boxes, some pieces missing, broken, unknown. I'm going to have some fun putting it all back together and rebuilding all of the systems as I know zero about two-stroke stuff. I've rebuilt all kinds of German, British and Italian cars through the years but this will be my first attempt on a Japanese car. I've already begun reading the excellent reference materials you have all accumulated and all the info on the site. I really want to dive in to this project and be puttering around town by this Summer. I do know of a few things that I will absolutely need, for sure. The truck came without a seat, the windshield is shot, all the seals are bad and I have no ignition key or interior handles..... I'm sure that there are many, many more things I'll be needing but that's the list so far and I've only had it a few days :). Anyway...I'm looking forward to learning more about these little cars, getting this one on the road and getting to know you all better.
Hopefully a pic or two will appear below...

Welcome!

I like the chrome rims. A little ' bling' goes a long way around these parts..... you came to the right place.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I like the chrome too. They have some rust spots but I think I can steel wool them and wax them every once in a while and they should be O.K. I may leave the wheels as is. I'm becoming more fond of cast aluminum and magnesium that's not polished out. I think I have about 6 or 7 hubcaps though. I do like the hunt for original parts but I also like the idea of researching alternative parts that work. I'll be bugging you all for good parts sources, etc. a lot more as skiing dies off and garage time becomes more bearable :).

Great, another Bryan with a "Y.". Congratulations on the new truck. Looks like a really good start. I'd like a car with most of the hard bodywork done.

Ha, yep, there are not too many of us around. I'm hoping he did O.K. on the bodywork. I used to do it myself a long time ago. I do know that it's more difficult to work this thin sheet metal especially on the larger flat panels. The last car I worked on with tthin metal was a Sunbeam Imp. It was difficult and I think that the metal may have been twice as thick :). I'll try to be good about documenting the project through pictures.

Bryan,

Congrats on finding and getting your truck! Glad you're here, too.

If you are missing any manuals or the parts catalog, see my site.
If you need the BOR, PM me for the link.

Yes, please post pictures as you work on your car. Use them to show off, or to show restoration challenges. You can even shoot videos, post them on youtube, and include the video in your post here! Whatever it takes to illustrate whatever issue you're having at the moment, to help folks come up with answers.

Best of luck,
Steve

PS: It can't ALL be in boxes - all four wheels are on the ground!

Thanks Steven. I've already begun reading your resources. Great stuff! I've been jumping all over the BOR too. That's a lot of info for sure. I wish the parts were as easy to find as the information :).
Thanks again,
Bryan

If we get two more, we should start a splinter group, 'Children of Parents Who Can't Spell Brian and Drive 360's Club'.
