Is UTC Necessary?

#1 Post by rogerbhp »

Moderators:
Is it necessary that all forum postings be done in UTC? I don't care what time it is in Greenwich, England. Even Ebay uses Pacific time!

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is also known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT.) By using this standard you can know, from anywhere in the World, just what time it is in Greenwich, England. This forum uses it so we can see the time of our posts. That might be important to some far-flung ex-patriates from Greenwich, but it means nothing to me. I say we should be on Pacific time.

In the account preferences you can set your time zone. Everyone should see the posts in their own timezone. I'm posting this at 1:40 Roger. If you see a different time you need to change your time zone.

^ Yes, and everyone I think has to reset now that the forum got updated.

However! It doesn't adjust for Daylight Savings Time! It's 1:56pm here but this post will display 12:56pm to me.

Mine seems to be working fine. It says UTC-07:00 and all of the posts are the correct time.

But Roger, by the same token - that would mean nothing to me! :D
