Hello! New Subaru 360 owner in MD

#1 Post by kingpolt »

Hello everyone. Im new to forums so please excuse me if my etiquette is off. I Semi recently bought a Subaru 360 and am working on restoring it to a nice driver quality quickly. Im in need of some good doors a hood emblem, door panels and possibly a oil pump. If anyone has any of that they are will to part with please let me know. I have already had alot of help from members so I am pretty exited to be a member now! Thanks everybody!

Hi, and welcome to the club! First of all, I suggest you add your location to the section at the left. Parts are getting harder and harder to find, including doors. I think the nose badge (hood ornament) was repopped recently but I don't remember who did it (maybe Bobby in North Carolina?) Many members end up having their door panels made by an upholstery shop. Ed will answer soon and tell you if he has any oil pumps. If not, he can probably rebuild yours. Welcome, again.

Thanks guys. Ill try to take some pictures tonight. Its pretty ugly lol. The doors are rusty and the strap to stop it from going into the fender is broke so the doors were dent into the fenders :(.

Bent-in sides are fairly common, more so on the sedan. If the door is opened while the car is moving forward, the door becomes a giant sail which causes the bend and tweaks the door pillar. Buying a replacement door is usually only part of the answer; you may still need to find a way to twist the door pillar back to near original, particularly if you want to make the door line up with the door latch. Garm has excellent replacement door straps available .... but you probably have broken door strap brackets, too, and no one is reproducing them yet.

Yeah I figured that was a common thing so I hoped that stuff would be available but I had never owed a 360 before lol as for the bracket I think I could make something or maybe use something off a jeep. How could I order those straps? And I forgot about my rear fenders were horrible is there anyone that might have them?

For tires: try Garm and you can also try Mini Mania in Northern California.

The problem with shocks is that even if you find one that fits, it may be a very harsh ride. The new shocks are usually made to carry a heavier car (2,500 to 4,000 pounds) rather than a tiny car like a Subaru (1,000 pounds), resulting in a stiff suspension. The only ones I know of can be made to fit the TRUCK/VAN, and NOT THE SEDAN. For the T/V, I used Monroe-Matic; front = # 32118, rear = 32134. I don't remember what work was needed to make them fit but there was something that I had to do to the shocks .... but it was easy! You may have no choice but to stay with original shocks on your sedan.

Possible brands for tires (10") are Vredestein, Kumho and Falken. Pirellis were great tires but I haven't seen them in years.

Welcome to The Club!

If you have an "iffy' oil pump see P. 350
in BOOK OF REPRINTS and if you are not
sure about doing it yourself I still do these
for members. If your oil pump is broken
or totally missing I have one good unit
ready to go. Please E-MAIL ME if I can help
and use large (18) font.
