Hi From The UK !

#1 Post by LeeBuckman »

Hi All,

I am new here and currently looking for a Subaru 360 van to buy and bring to the UK. I am 40 years of age an currently own a 1985 Escort RS Turbo and a US model BMW 600 (Work In Progress).

Any van's out there ?

Hi. I am in Kent, near the tunnel to France.

With regard to the van, not sure. Would love a RHD import from Japan but no idea where you would find one. Condition wise, don't really mind as long as it's not as rotten as a pear. Happy with something that needs stripping and rebuilding and new paint but ideally not huge amounts of welding. Something fairly complete i guess as like my BMW, parts are hard to find and i get stung for import duty by the government........

Here's my BMW and Escort !

RHD sedans come up pretty often on the Japan auctions. Sometimes trucks, and the rare van.

Hi, Lee, and welcome to the forum.

Vans are quite desirable and much sought after over here. Given their propensity toward rust and the dearth of parts, acquiring one, particularly in good shape, will most likely be a considerable challenge. Still, they do change hands from time to time, so be of stout heart and good cheer .... we'll try to find a suitable candidate for you.

Garm (Micro Image) does a good job of checking/monitoring the Japanese sites. I have never seen a RHD van or truck in this country so if that is important, I'd watch the Japanese interweb.

Lee Hit the board index & go to "My restoration", then click on "Old Yeller's Mechanical resto" & my BMW 600 is in the back ground of some of the shots. Doing a frame off mechanical restoration, but the body will still have the ORG paint. Zero rust on everything including the battery box. Have all of "Isetta are us" rubber, plastic, lens, felts & seals plus the ORG cloth for the seats.

Oh yes, very nice indeed. Noticed the 600 has original badges too. Your rest is amazing and my lust for a van has increased and keeps increasing as i get a feel for this forum.......

Welcome!

A member here in Tucson has a RHD 360 sedan
that he brought home from Okinawa at
least 35 years ago.

Welcome to the club Lee
I am only aware of one van in Canada and as far as I know it isn't for sale. Not much help to you I'm afraid

I must have been close to you ridding the Euro Star from Paris to London???? Very nice trip. 2nd trip to the UK, enjoyed the Eye & London once again. The pubs have changed a lot since I was there in 76 when we ran from London to Bude, Stonehenge, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, & all the villages in between, but I really missed the plowmans lunch & the 1/2 pints & pints with a splash as in Benny Hill.

Welcome to the Club from downunder, Lee! Ex-pat Brit here, I know there are a couple or more 360 sedans already in the UK. Very few in Australia unfortunately! I am still trying to trace what's left of the 35 sedans and 35 or so vans and trucks that came here in 1961, but so far only half a dozen (sedans) have materialised. These are all RHD of course. There are a number of car import (brokers) on the net, I have no idea who would be the better ones to use, but I am sure there would be much feedback about them.

Good luck with your search and hope to hear good news from you in due course!

Cheers,

Ian

Let me add my welcome to the group. My wife is from Liverpool, I know it's really not part of the UK but you'll give them a break just this time right?

Good luck on your search and don't give up for just as you do think about giving up one will pop up!
