New member from Carlsbad,NM.

#1 Post by bonebag78 »

My name is Daniel & I live in Carlsbad NM. I was given 2 360's.One is a sedan the other is a Young. The Young vin# is K111L-12488.Shortly after these were given to me I bought a 1970 360 truck.Vin#K153L-3352.The sedan was in very bad shape. It had gone through a hail storm about 5 years ago.So it had no glass and there was not a spot on it that was straight & I latter discovered the right frame rail under the door was bent upwards about 3 inches. The floor boards were completely rusted out.But the plus side it had an engine & lots of salvageable parts.Given the condition of the body I decided to part it out.The 360 Young is in need of complete restoration. The guy I got it from sent it to some one to fix the engine, but what he got back was the engine in boxes. It had seized up.They pounded the pistons out thus breaking them. Then they decided to put a pipe wrench on the crank to turn it.So not much is salvageable from that engine.I plan on putting the sedan engine in the Young. The truck is in good condition and is drivable.I did have to fix the left front wheel cylinders as they were leaking. There was an oil leak in the injection system on the engine side.So I replaced both hoses & that's when I found out the tank was cracked as well. The BOR was very helpful in telling on how to prime the oil system so you don't have to run premix. The Valvoline #444 injection oil that was described in the BOR Has been discontinued and its replacement is now # VV461.Given the vin numbers of the Young & the truck can some one verify there years??Also since I'm new at this, can some one tell me how I can post pictures of the truck & Young. Thanks,Daniel

Hi Daniel, welcome to the club! You have come to the right place.

To post pictures the first thing you will need is an account at a photo-sharing site like www.photobucket.com . You upload a picture, then somehow the site will give you an URL for a small (like 800x600 or smaller) copy of the picture that you can use here. When you want to post that copy here, use the IMG button at the top of the window. Then just paste the URL of the picture in-betwen the IMG and /IMG (the cursor is put there automatically).

If you don't already have them be sure to get all the manuals from my site - see the link in my sig below.

It sounds like you've got a lot to work with, and plenty of challenges ahead. Be sure to post whenever you come up against any issue!

I try to always resize my images to no more than 500px wide to prevent reformatting the forum layout .

actually you didn't get the photo thing right - see above. (another guy repaired your first try for you)

when you are ready to post an image

- click on the IMG button. You will see the "IMG" and the "/IMG", each in brackets.

- The cursor will be blinking in-between the two bracketed items.

- That's where you paste your link. No need to type anything else.

LOVING THE TRUCK!!! Welcome aboard and believe me when I tell you - you are in THE RIGHT PLACE for all things 360! You have an amazing wealth of knowledge available at your fingertips! I grew up with a 1970 truck, and I'm from Clovis, NM (and later, Ft. Bliss TX). My dad was a member of this club back in 1987/88 - he joined to get rid of his truck...and I joined last year to find a truck, but instead, fell in love with the 360 van - and got a wonderful 1969 360 Van shortly after I joined.

Here was my dad's truck:

Welcome, I also have a young I call Spud cause I got him from Idaho. Love the truck. Spud is in similar condition as the truck. I think his interior is worse but the body is similar. He also runs and brakes well. If I can be of any assistance let me know. Also I wouldn't just trash the motor. you never know when your going to need a part from a trashed engine until the junk man just left your house. Been there done that. If your convinced the motor is trash I'll pay the shipping to my house. Let me know.

Thanks to every one who took the time to fix the pictures and to Subie Gal on sending me the link with the tutorial on posting photos. I'm not going to part out the Young because from what I under stand they are not as common as the sedans. The engine still has some good parts and besides I'm a pack rat & I don't throw anything away.My next job for the truck is getting the choke cable fixed as it broke right at the end of the cable housing at the carb end.

Wow, congrats on your gift and finding the club. There is a wealth of information and friendly people here. I just joined recently myself. I'm a bit envious of your truck. I have essentially the same truck except that it's in pieces and I keep finding that I'm missing silly little things like a front seat or a gas tank, etc, etc :). Your little truck looks great! Congrats again,
Bryan
